Gunung is characterized by the unique use of decorative cotton cords. These are braided around the robust strands of sustainable banana fiber that form the base material of the round basket and artfully connect them together. The two completely different materials create an interesting contrast between white and beige, which contributes to the harmonious overall picture of Gunung.
The basket is available in three different sizes and can therefore be used for a variety of purposes in your home: whether in the living room as a decorative storage basket for pillows and blankets, in the bathroom or bedroom as a practical laundry basket or even in its smallest version as a high-quality and eye-catching waste paper basket – Gunung combines functionality with stylish aesthetics and enriches every room.

Main material: banana fiber
Our baskets are made from plant fibers. They therefore smell and feel wonderfully like nature.
Banana fiber is the fibers of the layered trunks of agricultural banana trees. The intense brown color occurs naturally when the fibers are dried in the sun for about a week. The individual strips are then rolled into the characteristic, approximately 6 mm thick strands. Only old, dying banana trees are used for this material. This gives these plants a second life as a dimensionally stable and robust raw material for many handmade baskets here at Soeji.

When selecting our local producers, we value fair pay and good working conditions. Only experienced and adult craftsmen work in the companies from which we purchase our goods. No harmful chemicals are used in the manufacturing process. Since all work steps are carried out by hand, the production process hardly produces any greenhouse gas emissions. We ensure all of this through regular on-site visits and permanent personal contact with the companies.
